Jack is working in a large public authority with over 10,000 employees, the organization has a board of directors with 11 board members, each is in charge of a very big function of the authority. Under the board members, there are 5 deputy directors in charge of different departments. Altogether there are about 300 middle level managers and 1,500 supervisors.
Now, Jack found that there are many misunderstanding and misstatement in task allocation in his department, disputes and ambiguities make the job very inefficient. He recently attended one seminar of modern management and began his interests in finding out the solution. Particularly, he tries to know the details of matrix system, project-based approach, job analysis and job design, motivation theories.
As a consultant, you are required to answer the following concerns raised by Jack?
1). What’s the problem the organization is now facing, what structure type, perhaps, can be applied in explaining the phenomenon? (10marks);
2). Identify suitable motivation theory which could be applied by the management of the organization to overcome the problems? (14 marks)
