STANDING FOR ELECTION

　　Council members greatly add value to the work of ACCA, through their contributions to debates and through the knowledge and experience they bring to the organisation.

　　Why stand for election?

　　Many ACCA members stand for election to ‘put something back’。 They are grateful for the opportunities ACCA has given them, and now want to ensure the same – and even better – opportunities remain available for others.

　　Council membership also offers a rare opportunity to influence the development of the profession as a whole – to help shape the future of accountancy by learning more about the threats and challenges it faces, and working with like-minded individuals to prepare and implement strategic responses.

　　While its duties may appear to be onerous, service on Council is both challenging and fulfilling.  Find out why from some of the current Council members talking about their time on Council, their role in ACCA’s governance and what ACCA means to them. Council is always keen to identify ACCA members with talent and an understanding of good governance who may be interested in standing for election to Council.

　　How to stand for election

　　Elections are open to all current ACCA members who are not undergoing disciplinary proceedings and ACCA invites nominations from members to stand for election from March until June each year.

　　If you are interested in taking part:

　　announce your intention to stand for election by writing to the ACCA Secretary at 29, Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London WC2A 3EE, UK or by email.

　　and

　　provide nominations from 10 named supporters, all of whom must be ACCA members in good standing.

　　Once your application has been confirmed in writing, we will request an election statement of around 180 words, together with a head and shoulders photograph, which will be included in the AGM papers circulated to all members.
